In computer science, “channels” refer to a mechanism for concurrent computation, enabling different parts of a program to communicate and synchronize their execution. They are commonly used in concurrent programming languages and systems to pass data between independently executing processes or threads. A channel provides a conduit through which one process can send data, and another process can receive data, ensuring that both processes can operate in a coordinated manner. Channels often incorporate synchronization primitives to manage access and prevent race conditions, ensuring data integrity and predictable behavior in concurrent environments. They facilitate the construction of modular and scalable concurrent systems by decoupling the communicating components.
